At Plastika Kritis Group, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
Our plastic film recycling system helps reduce agricultural waste, supports farmers, and transforms used materials into high-quality products, reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship. Below, we explore how our recycling initiative operates, and how it contributes to sustainable farming, resource efficiency, and environmental protection.
A Modern Recycling Plant with 6,500 Tons Annual Capacity
Our Group operates a state-of-the-art plastic recycling plant with a capacity of 6,500 tons per year. We recycle used plastics from greenhouses, agriculture, industrial operations, and other plastic waste streams. A portion of the recycled material is incorporated into our own products, such as films for ordinary and construction use, while the rest is supplied to other plastic manufacturers across Greece for various applications, including plastic bag production.
Collaborating with Local Communities for Greener Solutions
In collaboration with local authorities, we have developed a comprehensive plastic film collection and processing network across Crete. This initiative allows farmers to recycle their used greenhouse films more easily and responsibly.
We also participate in local recycling systems in partnership with communities and municipalities. By doing so, Plastika Kritis supports local environmental efforts, strengthens community recycling infrastructure, and promotes responsible waste management practices.
Our Plastic Film Recycling Process
We have established a reliable collection network involving private contractors and farmers who deliver used greenhouse films to designated collection stations. These fenced stations protect the materials from environmental damage. The collected films are cut, cleaned of foreign materials such as stones and sand, and bundled for efficient transportation to our recycling facility.
At our plant, modern machinery transforms these materials into reusable raw materials. In 2023 alone, we recycled 802 tons of used agricultural films and 71 tons of used pipes, converting waste into valuable resources.
These recycled materials are used to manufacture new products such as film cores and membranes, minimizing the need for virgin plastics and supporting circular product lifecycles. Many of these materials are certified as post-consumer recycled (PCR), enabling their use in environmentally compliant applications.
Certified Sustainability: ISCC & ISCC PLUS
At the end of 2022, we initiated the ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) process, demonstrating our commitment to environmentally, socially, and economically responsible production. ISCC is a globally recognized certification ensuring sustainable, fully traceable, and climate-friendly supply chains.
In 2023, we further advanced our efforts with ISCC PLUS certification, which applies to products in the bioeconomy and circular economy, including plastics, packaging, textiles, and renewable raw materials. Under this system, we certify specific recyclable and PCR raw materials, including agricultural films made from recycled consumer products.
Through these certifications, we uphold key sustainability principles such as:
- Environmentally responsible production.
- Continuous improvement in management practices.
- Safe working conditions.
- Respect for human and labor rights.
- Legal and ethical compliance.
Reducing Our Environmental Footprint through Recycling
Plastika Kritis Group adopts a holistic approach to plastic recycling, reaching beyond production to actively engage in waste recovery and resource efficiency. Our robust recycling process not only reduces plastic waste and greenhouse gas emissions, but also extends the lifecycle of agricultural plastics and minimizes reliance on virgin resources.
By integrating recycled plastics into our product lines, we enhance their performance and sustainability while helping our clients meet growing environmental standards. Our close collaboration with local stakeholders ensures responsible practices and the preservation of rural ecosystems.
Conclusion: A Commitment to Circularity and Sustainability
At Plastika Kritis Group, recycling is more than a process, it’s part of our identity. With certified systems, strong local partnerships, and advanced technology, we are proud to play a pivotal role in building a more sustainable and circular future for plastics. As we continue to invest in greener solutions, we remain committed to environmental protection, community engagement, and the innovation of sustainable plastic products.
